DROP EVERYTHING

QUICK FYI: For months, I've been on the hunt for some very sexy, skin-tight, super-skinny black jeans but they're always soo stomach-churningly overpriced that I could just ish on Flava Flav's floor (was that the most degrading, most-setting-The-Movement-back moment you've ever seen? This woman's great-grandmother probably languished in the back of someobdy's bus for decades, fantasizing about the day America would see us as actual human beings...and that idiot gets on TV and behaves like an uncivilized animal. Not to get all political, but have you EVER?). Well, last week I found some on Urban Outfitters' website...the BDG 5-Pocket Skinny Jean in Black, and they're only $49!! Despite fearing that they must be made out of aluminum foil or something to be that cheap...I ordered them. I just got them today, and I'm so feeling my sexy I can't get out of the mirror. They're that PERFECT skinny fit, you know, totally butt-lifting and thigh-slimming and sooo delicious all scrunched up over flats. I'm showstoppin', I'm show-show-stopPIN!! Seriously, you need to buy them now. And I know it's tricky ordering jeans online, but these are very true to size. I ordered my usual size, a 27, and they were exactly just right. Kate Moss is so scared of me.
LUV YA--MEAN IT,
tia

Ok so right now we are on some other wordly-twin-cosmic experience type of stuff. I just brought my first pair of skinny jeans for fall. Black, fits like a dream, super soft denim. $30 from tar-jay Mossimo line. I found them in the fitting room as I was trying on the new Paul and Joe Kimono dress. It was like a sign from God. Now I'm a bigger girl 8-10, depending on the day ;-) and they make me look at least 10 pounds lighter. As I live and breathe, I am wearing them today. I feel like sending you a pic; but I won't lest you think I'm some crazy stalker... or is it too late?

i went to Urban Outfitters to check out those jeans and they really didn't do it for me. :(
I usually wear a size 27 but i needed a 28 in these. I am not the most curvy sister and these were kinda too low in the back. Maybe because of my height. I can't imagine that these will work for the average black woman. Just my opinion.

Ms. Anonymous,

My jean size always fluctuates depending on the jeans, but no one will see the size but you. Concentrate on finding jeans that look good and fit. Express, Baby Phat, and the House of Dereon also carry skinny jeans. My problem is more a search for the right length since I am short and it would be hard to get skinny jeans tailored. Express jeans come in multiple lengths so I am probably going to go there first. Baby Phat has a nice fit...always the perfect amount of stretch but again the length is often an issue (not and issue if you are tall). House of Dereon jeans are designed to fit small waisted, long-legged individuals, who have a blessed rear. I have to get them tailored for my height and the butt is often too roomie. Since we are sharing sizes I can fit size 27 in the waist but without stretch in the jeans I usually get a 28 to give my legs more room. In baby phat I wear a 5. And at express a 4 or 6 depending on the cut.

I want to try them but am worried that skinny won't work for me. I am a size ten and tall but the low rise has me concerned.

schanania,
I only mentioned sizing in case people were considering ordering online. They aren't exactly true-to-size. Of course when I buy jeans or any other article of clothing I concentrate on what looks good and not the size that stitched on the inside. But thanks for your advice anyway.

Happy B-day Tia!! You're a LEO like me...ROAAARRRR!!

BTW everyone in my last post I didn't mean any harm. I was just trying to give people an idea on how different (less expensive brands) of skinny jeans may fit. One of my many jobs is a retail gig...so I am always suggesting alternatives to customers. But the new Vixen has a how to rock skinny jean story in the new issue… so that may help too.

MalcaJ,

I'm interning at a big fashion magazine and we just finished a story on skinny jeans and trust me, I wondered how anyone with real porportions is supposed to rock this style (because hello! We don't all have Kate Moss' legs!). After looking at 50 million pairs of skinny jeans, here's what I've found: the troublesome thing about skinny jeans is that the opening at the bottom of jean can be super small like 4" or can be bigger like 7". Gals with smaller legs should opt for a more tapered bottom (SUper skinny jeans look great on girls who have the legs for them), but if you're like me and you've been blessed with a butt or thighs you have to go for a bigger opening at the bottom to balence everything out. If you have bigger hips sometimes even a straight leg jean will give you the "skinny jean look" without making you look like an upside down triangle :)

Unfortunately not every skinny jean will look good on every girl (it's more of a CUT thing not a size thing) so you just have to play around with different brands before you find the one that will work best for you.

Skinny's are hard but they can work!
