"Botox in a Bottle"

Hey mamacitas,
The other night I was enjoying a very sexy dinner at Waverly Inn with my equally sexy girlfriends Tina Wells and Stephanie Smith, when I was suddenly distracted by Steph's glorious, glowy complexion (check it out, left). Being me, I immediately pushed pause on the convo and DEMANDED that she explain precisely how she achieved le luminosity (an otherworldly concealer? Afterglow?). As she divulged her secret weapon, I had an idea. Stephanie is actually a brilliant journalist--for the past three years, she's been a media reporter at WWD, and she's also written for the likes of Playboy, People, Money and Vibe (RIP, sniff)--so, why not have her write up a little testimonial about her favorite beauty obsession? Here, Miss Stephanie gives you ladies the 411 on what's behind her complexion perfection...

"You know, there's truth to the old saying, “black don’t crack.” But that doesn’t mean a little preventative care isn’t necessary.

Though I’m barely into my 30s, I use Strivectin SD Eye Cream ($59) underneath my eyes each night. The stuff is truly Botox in a bottle. It was formulated to prevent stretch marks on the body, but women soon discovered that it was fantastic for preventing wrinkles around the eyes and on the neck. Soon, the manufacturers produced formulas specific to other body parts.

Dabbing one small drop of the light cream around the eyes at night soothes the skin around the eye and literally erases any signs of aging. Whether I've had a hard day’s work or a hard night of partying, I apply it at night and by the next morning, I look like I’ve gotten a facelift. I have not one line around my eyes—-not one crow’s foot, not even a crow’s toe—-because of this super-cream.

This stuff is so good, I once risked being arrested rather than losing my bottle! On a flight to Miami, I forgot about the "no liquids over 3 ounces" rule and almost had my Strivectin confiscated by the TSA. After hyperventilating and declaring that the male security employee had something against age-defiant women, he gave me a choice between the eye cream or my toothpaste.

Sorry, I’m just not that attached to Colgate."

I hear you, Steph. And I'm the daughter of a dentist.
xoxo,
Tia

I am looking for a good eye cream. Being in your 30s makes things look...um...different when you look in the mirror :)

I won't hate on her for tossing the Colgate-you can pick up another tube for $3. The Strivectin is more than $3. In my mind, that was just good sense.

I thank you for the recommendation of this product, I'm in my mid 30's and my eyes are starting to see the coming of fine lines and itty-bitty wrinkles, I will have to splurge on this definitely.

Cool, another product to add to my list of wrinkle fighters. Why is it that my finances can never keep up with my list of items to try?

Interesting! I'll have to check this out. And I so agree with picking eye cream over toothpaste. :-)

NO, BLACK, AND BROWN, REALLY DOESN'T CRACK. BUT, AS WITH ANYTHING, YOU'VE GOT TO MAINTAIN, AND PRESERVE WHAT YOU'VE GOT OR IT WILL, AND I MEAN, WILL START FALLING APART EVEN FOR US WOMEN OF COLOR. THE AREAS ON THE FACE USUALLY EFFECTED ARE THE EYES AND NASALOBIAL (LINES AROUND THE NOSE).

I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO STEPH, FOR STARTING HER EYE CARE REGIME AT 30. FOR THE YOUNG LADY WHO ASKED, IS 24 TO YOUNG TO START USING EYE CARE TREATMENTS, I SAY, NO, HURRY UP AND GET GOING. I'VE MEET SO MANY YOUNG LADIES OF COLOR WHO DON'T, USE THE PROPER SKIN CARE PRODUCTS ON THEIR SKIN. THEY CAN BE SHARP AS A TACK, FROM HEAD TO TOE, BUT WHEN I LOOK AT THE FACE, I CAN TELL, THEY DON'T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT PROPER EYE OR SKIN CARE REGIMES. I COULD GO ON, AND ON BUT, WILL SAVE IT FOR ANOTHER TIME AND SPACE. A LITTLE TIP BEFORE I GO: REMMBER THAT IT ONLY, TAKES A SMALL AMOUNT OF PRODUCT AROUND THE EYES, AND DON'T FORGET TO APPLY IT ON THE TOP PORTION OF THE EYE. EXCLUDING THE LID. USING MORE OF A PRODUCT WON'T GIVE YOU FASTER RESULTS, BEING CONSISTENT WITH WHAT YOU'RE DOING WILL.
