Good Charlotte

Hey ladies,
Okay, so I've had the flu since Saturday and I'm OVER it. I'm also terrified of passing it on to La Lina. Question for my SYB Mommies...how do I prevent doing this? I bought those blue surgical masks from the drugstore and have been wearing them faithfully (Carolina's reactions have veered from indulgent amusement to blood-curdling terror). I will calmly fling myself out the window onto 7th Avenue if my tiny, flawless gem begins hocking up loogies.

Knowing I've been sequestered in my abode for a week, my forever friend Charlotte stopped by yesterday to tell me saucy tales from her single-in-the-city life (living vicariously, and not ashamed). On her way out, she began primping for some fabulous dinner party, and whipped out a deep, dark lipstain...Vincent Longo Lip & Cheek Gel Stain in Neo Aura ($22.50). It was SO vampy, so shady-lady-enters-the-bar--I died. Since she'd had her flu shot, she let me try it on, and I was shocked to find it looked just as yummy on me (shocked because she's a blue-eyed blonde). When I woke up at 4am to feed La Lina, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and it was STILL on. How delightful! It's the little things that make you feel fabulous, right?

Long story short, I'm in full support of the lip stain right now. If you can't stomach coughing up $22, you should try one of Cover Girl's new Outlast Lipstains ($7.50). I'm partial to Cinnamon Smile--it's almost as dangerous as the Vincent Longo!
xoxo,
Tia

PS...I'm serious about the "sick mommy" suggestions. Help!

I just recently had bronchitis and asked the doctor in the ER (yes it was that bad) the same thing about passing it on to my little ones. I was told that as long as I wasnt coughing directly in their faces or kissing them it was ok. I told her it was hard not to kiss on them so I was given the ok to plant kisses on thier tiny little heads. All is well in our household. :-)

PS. LOVE the lipstain!

Tia: "Wow, what a vampy little lip stain you have there."
(Tia is mesmerized by her friend’s new find :|)

Tia's Friend: "Cover Girl, it's new! Wanna Try?"

Tia: "I would but..."

Tia's Friend: "No worries, I've had my flu shot.. " ; -)

Tia: "Well then…” (Minutes later…) “This lip stain is legendary, blog worthy...never tease me like that again!”

I'm rolling....lol

First of all, love your site. It's so much fun to have you back and writing about lots of goodies.

Anyway, I'm not a mom, but I do a lot of sitting, so I'm used to being sick around kids (and trying to avoid their germs). Keep lots of hand sanitizer around and use it both before and after you touch little Lina. Like Shana said, watch the face-to-face contact and you should all be fine.

Keep using the masks, keep your hands clean and sanitized, and scrub down all hard surfaces with an anti-bacterial cleanser.

Get well mama!

If you are breast-feeding continue. She'll get your antibodies. I recently had a cold and kept breastfeeding. The babe got a bit of sniffles but did not get sick like me.

Definitely breast feed!! Also, scrub your hands vigorously for 20 seconds with soap and rinse well. It's better than antibacterial, because the flu is a virus!

Tia, you're going to have to avoid rubbing noses and kissing those checks until your flu passes...it'll be hard but the alternative would be harder for you! On a side note, I've been with my husband for 15 years- I could so use a little vampy right now!!!!!!!!

Tia...just make sure you are washing your hands as much as possible and try to not kiss the Princess on her face or hands.

Everything will be okay.

Feel better and I love the lipstains. :)

Hey Tia! Like the other mommies said, keep breastfeeding and avoid kissing those gorgeous lil cheeks. Also load yourself up on vitamin c and plenty of water while you recover. be well!

I only wear long lasting lipstick (I would not want to leave a smooch mark on Jackson). They are great! I like L'Oreal Infallible in French Roast (cute lil mirror packaging too).

Jackson had a flu shot so he is covered... Has not been sick ever. Maybe some sniffles slight runny nose but that is it. I was only slightly sick this winter... I am still nursing (11 months about to wean end of the month) so that may be why his immune system is tight... To keep from getting him sick, I would do as others say - wash hands often and cough sneeze in crook of arm not hands... I also would continue to eat well so you don't get sickER... Feel better!

Also ask your OB or Pediatrician about taking Vitamin C when breastfeeding if you are... I heard you should not just take what is found naturally in foods (OJ etc). I would ask before doing it as others have suggested here...

Hope this helps!!!

Hi Tia,

I love your blog. I am a mommy to a little one, also (a 4 month old princess)and love that you are blending the two on the blog (fashion and mommyhood). I also happen to be a physician - OB/GYN. It won't help you this year, but I always get a flu shot at the beginning of the season and make everyone in the house do the same. For now, hand washing, hand gel (especially after blowing your nose)will help. Also, using a mouth rinse that is anti-bacterial is helpful. And, as said before, keep the kisses to the forehead, tummy, chunky thighs, feet, you get the picture. Last thing....yes breast feeding does help, she is getting your antibodies and will be able to fight off the virus better. Got to go......Clarke is sweetly calling....

hello..............all
Wow. I really didn't not intend for me twittering about my BritAir tattoo incident to get so much attention. At the end of the day who really cares if i make my flight or not? I was mostly laughing about it as i thought most of the people who follow me on twitter would too. A few of the other BA employees were just as surprised as i was. But it was their manager and for some reason i could not file a complaint there...........thank
