Pat McGrath is a Genius
Hi ladies,
Our winner for week five of SYB's "Free at Last" Giveaway Extravaganza is the fabulously named Ms. Porkchopanonomus! Go 'head, girl. Okay, so shoot me an email at beauty@tiawilliams.net with your address, and I'll send you le prize...the Redken Color Extend Sun Collection! Girls, make sure you come back next Monday for week six of "Free at Last," and compete to win a mountain of must-haves from Bare Minerals! Until then, two things:
1.) I love you to death. If you heart me, too, then help me win a 2009 Glam Network Award, dammit! Sorry, did I come on to strong? I'm just saying...thanks to you, I won the Best Voice/Creative Writing Award back in 2006, and I know we can make the magic happen again. Click HERE to vote, sweet thangs!
2.) Guess who I had lunch with today? None other than the Lady Maquillage herself, the supernaturally talented makeup artist, Pat McGrath (quick bio: London-born Ms. McGrath has not only worked with every top designer, photographer, and supermodel that ever drew a breath, she's also the creative design director for Max Factor and Cover Girl. Oh, and Vogue called her the most influential makeup artist on the planet. Plus, she's brown. Not that it matters, but we love that). Anyway, a bunch of my blogger pals and I met with her at Robert Verdi's Luxe Laboratory to discuss a matter of international importance: Spring '09 makeup trends. Here's what mama discovered:
* For years I've been trying to find the perfect nude lip, to no avail. Well, according to Pat, the it's been sitting in my makeup kit, all along. When I asked the beauty maestro to name her favorite nude lipcolor for brown girls, she gave me a brilliant trick. Simply apply your favorite foundation all over your lips, and top it off with a shimmery, sheer gloss for depth and shine. I mean, DUH.
* Speaking of lips, she announced in no uncertain terms that Max Factor Vivid Impact Lipcolor in Wine Not ($8.49) was amazing-mazing. I tried it on, and surprise! She's right. The deeep, beet-red crimson is glorious.
* One of her favorite beauty looks at the Spring shows was the turquoise eye at Gucci (there's Chanel Iman, flaunting the moment). Pat told us how she created it: Using her finger, she applied Cover Girl Eye Enhancers in Turquoise Tempest ($3.49) along the lid, and then lined the entire eye with black pencil. So, so pretty and fresh for spring! And, as she said, "at this price, you won't feel guilty for taking a risk with color. Anyone can have a go!" Love Britspeak.
* Last but certainly not least, Pat gave a great tip for filling in brows. DON'T use only one pencil--it can make your arches look harsh and unnatural (she says that brows are made of up several different haircolors. Who knew?). She recommends using two shades--one lighter and one darker than your brows--and lightly filling in with short, feather-like strokes. I'm all over it.
Okay, that's it for now! Talk to you ladies later,
Tiaxoxo

So strange, I had asked about a nude lip and dark red lip on your Twitter page before I'd read this post. :-)
Just voted! Go Tia!
Love Pat McGrath.
I wish she would kick Max Factor in the direction of making foundations
for us darker sisters.
The nude lip trick is genius. WOW. And so simple. I have been looking for the perfect nude lipcolor for ages.
Thanks Tia!
I tried putting this comment on a previous post...not sure what happened. Could the next giveaway be a random pick from the right answers to your questions? This would give us girls west of the Mississippi a chance to win. LOL
I voted! Hope you win!
Re: philly0309-Tia, what if you made sure you posted at noon or something? That way everyone would be up and about, no matter their time zone?
Have a great week, SYB Babes!!!
Great post on the fabulous Ms. McGrath! Love her!!
Good point, Philly0309. Will do, next week!

omgomgomg, so happy for you! if you see her again, please say hi for Lola Re :o)
Can I just tell you that I love the fact that Ms. McGrath used her FINGERS to apply eyeshadow? and the nude lip tip is simply genius! thanks for the info and I casted my vote!
Love Pat.
Got Bruises? Check out BruiseMD.com. Somebody turned me onto this stuff and it is the real deal, when it comes to the pain, swelling and purplish-brown marks that are a result of bruises. This stuff clears your skin right up. I tried the pills (pineapple and papaya). The next time, I went for the Cooling Gel (with Arnica) and it was just what the doctor ordered. They also have a Soothing Cream and Analgesic Balm. Apparently, Arnica has been around for a long time. Who knew!?
PS - Pat McGrath is the "Black Magic Woman" and should have her own line.
