Giveaway #13: Orlane and Sampar
Hello ladies,
Welcome to week thirteen of SYB's "Free at Last" Giveaway Extravaganza! Did you have a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend? Speaking of, you know I usually post on Monday, but for some reason, I thought today was Sunday. How long does the new-mommy excuse last? In any event, this week is the last and final "Free at Last!" So crazy, man. I feel like it was just a little spark in my brain, like, yesterday. It's been so much fun paying all my loyal SYB Babes back for four years of blood, sweat, tears, and eyeliner! Hope you enjoyed it, too. Okay, so here are the rules for le latecomers: I'll ask a trivia question from SYB's archives at the end of this post, and if you know the answer, leave it in the "comments" section. On Thursday, I'll RANDOMLY pick a reader from the correct answers to win this week's free product giveaway. Good luck!
THE PRIZES: A couple of brand-spanking-new, insanely luxe launches from two major skincare brands!
Orlane Paris Absolute Radiance Lightbox ($200) is an anti-aging kit that takes your skin from dull to dazzling in seven minutes. NO, really. The three-part system is seriously concentrated, though, so it's not to be used as a daily regimen. Instead, use it before some grand event where you need to look your most devastating, like a wedding, or a first date with your future-husband-that-doesn't-know-it-yet, or some major job interview, or a reality show audition. Complexion perfection, promised.
Sampar Eye Rule ($78) is a brilliant puff-reducing, dark circle-fading, wrinkle-erasing formula that has celebs like Gossip Girl's Jessica Szohr beyond addicted. Forget the genius eye cream for a minute, and focus on airtight pen applicator! Something about that teeny-tiny, skin-cooling roller ball is so delightful, and it feels fantastic on hot, summer skin. Eye do!
AND NOW, THE TRIVIA QUESTION: In a Summer '08 post, I wrote about throwing a doomed stoop sale. Why was it a failure? And why was I throwing it?

Hi! You were having the sale to make room for your 'new arrival' and it was a failure because you weren't able to sell all of your old shoes!
You needed to get rid of some old stuff (as I should do). And of course, like any lucky seller, you got rained out/failed to catch anyone's attention.
But I wear a size 10 so i could have worked that out haha.
BTW i just stumbled on your site, and I definitely love it. Keep doing what you're doing!
A torrential downpour. :(
1.it rained
2.it was so hot that your makeup became runny
3.all you were selling were shoes and not a lot of people know someone who wears a size 10
It was a failure because:
1 - most of what you were selling consisted of size 10 shoes (and I feel your pain...I've been a size 10 since 8th grade!)
2 - your makeup melted on you
3 - it rained
You were throwing the sale in order to make room for La Lina! :)
The weather was too hot (your makeup melted), then it rained. You also mentioned the old shoes of size 10 that people didn't want
You were making room for the babe. But not only did the sale get rained out, your shoe selection consisted mostly of size 10s!
PS- I wear a 12 shoe, so I can feel your pain.
You were having a stoop sale because "something" (La Lina!!) had you thinking that your apt was going to become really cramped in the near future and you wanted to get rid of some random things. It was a failure because 1) we had a torrential downpour soon after you started and 2) because most of what you had for sale were old size 10 shoes! I used to live in Park Slope and remember those stoop sales! I'm sure you had a lot of competition that weekend too!
Ha! This is 1 question I didn't have to look up! I remember it!!! You were selling your shoes to make room (hmm....this is when we all started hearing the pitter-patter of little feet and stated thinking you were holding out on us girlie!) Also not many of your stoop-stoppers wore a size 10!!! And the skies open up and let a huge down pour land! Not to mention your makeup...lol. I'm sure that seems like a lifetime ago now that La Lina is here. Children have a way of coming into your life and blurring your past. I can't remember my life without my 3 angels.
You were getting rid of random stuff because of La Lina's arrival. It failed because the bulk of the sale items were size 10 shoes which no one in Park Slope wears apparently. There was also a downpour of rain and a serious makeup malfunction to deal with.
Argh!
Between the drenching rain, the melting make-up, and the unsellable shoes, the stoop sale fizzled.
It was a failure because your stoop sale consisted of mostly shoes and your a size ten and no one really knew anyone who wore size ten shoes.
And you were selling some of your stuff because of "recent developments" that had you thinking that your teeny apartment was about to get MUCH teenier.
And that recent development was the cuteness that is your cutie patootie La Lina.
And your makeup was yucky because it melted so you introduced us to Cargo "Melt-proof Makeup."
Do they still sell that? I think I'm going to need it this summer...
You were trying to get rid of old stuff to make room for your daughter :)
The sale was a failure because it rained! (And *maybe* partly because you were selling shoes and few women where you live wear a shoe size 10:D)
You said that the main reason was not the rain but it was a failure since you were mostly selling old shoes and the size was 10D (which didnt seem very popular:). Also, your makeup melted off even before the rain, that happens to me all summer long!
But there was one good thing about this- you have found a new Cargo melt proof makeup set!
It was a failure because:
1) a torrential downpour rained you out
2) the bulk of what you were selling was old size 10 shoes, which failed to be a hit with your fellow Park Slopers.
You were throwing the sale to make room in your place for the impending arrival of your baby girl!
The stoop sale was a failure because it rained , and because most of what you had for sale were size 10 shoes. Added to this your make up melted as it was very hot.
1. You were having the sale to make room for a new baby
2. It rained/ your shoe selection was rather specialized ;)
You were having the sale so you could accomodate your new arrival (BTW you made us wait for the baby bump confirmation.
But your sale was a semi flop because A. most of what you were selling consisted of size 10 shoes
B - your makeup melted on you
C- it rained (did you mess up your Adelina blow out?
you were having the sale to make room to the baby and it was a flop because it rained. Wonderful giveaway!
you were throwing it to make room for a new arrival. it was a failure because no one came to it (sellin lots of old shoes) and you got rained out. also your make up melted :(
You had the sale because you were making room for La Lina and it failed because:
1. it rained.
2. your makeup melted cause it was so hot!
3. most of what you were selling was size 10 shoes.
your makeup melted...all you were selling were shoes and not a lot of people know someone who wears a size 10
& you were makin' room for La Lina!
You were getting rid of various pieces of stuff to make room for "something"! Things went bad cause of the rain and the fact not many women wore size 10 in your neighborhood! And a really bad makeup day! :)
You had the sale because you needed to make room for lovely lina!
It was a failure because:
1. It was hot and your makeup melted.
2. It was rainy.
3. Not many people wear size 10 shoes!
ooh i remember tia! it was raining something terrible and your makeup just would not hold up! and of course your shoes were a sz ten (which i can totally relate to :) oh to be a perfect 10....
Hey, it's been a really long time since I've been up here but I've been superbusy. I haven't even had time to congratulate you on Carolina!!! She's gorgeous (saw the pics on Facebook).
Time for my shameless plug: If you're looking for a new blog to dig, maybe sometime you'll check out my site, Fashion Seizure? I think you'll like it, and hopefully it will have the honor of being listed among your favorite bliggidy blogs. It's fashionseizure.blogspot.com. We Creoles from Virginia gotta stick together, you know?
Ohhh what a giveaway!
So, the reason you were having the sale was to make room for your baby (which you didn't announce right away, just mentioned a "new arrival"!)
As for the reason it wasn't what we would call a "success", well it was mainly because of the rain and partly (hehe) because of the un-popularity of the size 10 shoes you were trying to sell!
Hi! I'm still using the mommy excuse and my kids are grown! LOL
You needed to get rid of stuff so that you could make room for your lovely baby girl, La Lina. If failed mostly because the bulk of your stuff was old shoes size 10 which I have also worn since in middle school.
I remember that post!! You were having a stoop sale to make room in your apartment for something. We now know you did it for La Lina. :-) The stoop sale didn't go well, due to a downpour. You had plenty of shoes to sell, but there weren't many size tens stopping by your stoop. Also, your makeup wasn't holding up in the weather that day. What a day! :-) Thanks for the chance on all these giveaways. I hope you do this again in the future and this isn't the last, last one!
Well Tia your wanted to sell some things to make room for baby, but it rained, your make up melted, and your size 10 shoes were not such a hit.
Hola Mommita!
Your stoop sale was a failure because of terrential downpour-and even moreso of your make-up on your face (you were pooped, poor thing!); and the folks up there don't wear size 10s, which was a majority of your inventory (old shoes). Most importantly, you had this stoop sale because you were (wink, wink) making room for your prima SYB, La Lena!
Bondgirl
1)the weather was uncooperative-it rained
2)your makeup melted from the heat-again the weather
3)you were selling size 10 shoes-there weren't too many size 10 shoe shoppers that day
you were throwing the stoop sale to make room in the apartment (for the baby). it was a failure because you unfortunately got rained out (booo!).
This is quite a nice overview of Orlane Paris Absolute Radiance Lightbox and Sampar Eye Rule. As these are new launches I would rather wait for the review of these products from someone who have used it. :D
You threw the sale bc you needed to make room before your new arrival(la lina) came.
It was a failure because
1. it rained-boo!
2. your make-up melted-ahh
3. and you couldn't sell your size 10 shoes.
hello Tia!
the stoop sale was a failure because:
1. there was a torrential downpour!
2. your old size 10 shoes weren't really popular over there
3. your makeup melted! lol ok, this wasn't one of the reasons i think
and you were having it because you were trying to clear up space to accomodate la lina!!
Dear Organic Makeup,
Wanted you--and everyone--to know I absolutely sampled both of this week's giveaway products. As a veteran beauty writer, I'm lucky enough to be able to sample products before they hit the market!
xo,
Tia
I'm late I know so I just wanted to put my thoughts in
Your were throwing the party because you were trying to randomly get rid of some things and you apartment was teeny and getting teenier.
Your writing is so creative and you make me laugh when you said and I quote,
....."Anyway, it went really well until a torrential downpour rained me out (actually, I'm totally lying. It was a failure, mostly because the bulk of my stuff was old shoes, and apparently most Park Slopers don't even KNOW a someone who wears a size 10. Hmph.) But to tell you the truth, I was rained out way before the thunderstorm happened. It was sooo hot, and I was a sweaty, bleary mess. By the end of two hours out there, my blush had traveled to my chin. I won't even tell you what happened to my mascara, it was too ghastly. It seems to me, though, that a fabulous new makeup collection has been sent to answer my summertime prayers. Cargo "Melt-Proof" Makeup Collection ($39...a $90 value!),"......
